
Giele Earns Second Consecutive Freshman of the Week Honor

The UA freshman helped propel the Crimson Tide’s 200 medley relay to a top-five national ranking and set the Alabama Aquatic Center record
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama's Tessa Giele notched her second consecutive Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week honor, the league office announced Tuesday. As a member of the Tide's pool-record setting and top-five nationally ranked 200 medley relay team, Giele helped lead UA to victory over Auburn last Friday.
The honor marked her second career nod in as many weeks after also earning Freshman of the Week recognition for her performance against Texas A&M.
Highlights
- Captured the nation's fifth-fastest 200 medley relay time, and fastest time in the SEC this season, with a time of 1:34.34
- Alongside teammates Emily Jones, Jada Scott and Cadence Vincent, the 200 medley relay quartet also set an Alabama Aquatic Center record as they won the event against Auburn by over a second
- Won the 100 butterfly for the second straight week, recording a time of 51.67 which took first place by over half a second
- Helped the 400 free relay team capture the top time in the dual meet by two seconds with a time of 3:13.22
- Also finished second in the 50 freestyle with a 22.08, behind teammate Cadence Vincent
