The win was the third 4-3 victory in five matches for the Tide
LEXINGTON, Ky. – For the third time in five matches, the Alabama men's tennis team (9-8, 3-3 SEC) captured a thrilling 4-3 victory as the Crimson Tide downed Kentucky (9-7, 2-4 SEC) on the road Friday.
The Tide jumped out to an early lead after taking the doubles point, but the two teams would trade points in singles action. The deciding point came down to court six as Rohan Hazratwala battled through a third-set tiebreaker to claim the win.
From Head Coach George Husack
"A great team effort tonight. We had to accept the ebb and flow of the match on numerous occasions. In doubles, we got off to fantastic starts on all courts only to find ourselves facing five match points against us. Brendan (Loh) and Rohan (Hazratwala) were outstanding and didn't relent. Exciting moment for the Aussie pair. The momentum flowed on in singles where we won four first sets and ultimately a pair of impressive victories by Yoshka (Sborowsky) and Vit (Kalina). But you can never expect an easy day in the SEC. The Cats clawed back to tie things up and even had two match-match (overall) points. Our guys accepted the ebb and flow once again. Rohan kept cool and negated those two clinchers. Then in the breaker, he let it flow and gave us the victory. So happy for him. Last weekend was tough for him. We met and he said he just wanted to contribute to the team. He felt terrible about his performances and wanted to do better mentally. A mature thing to say but putting his words into action was icing on the cake. A strong finish for this freshman and as the saying goes, a smooth sea never made a skilled sailor."
