Jocelyn Briski, Alea Johnson and Braya Hodges throw a combined perfect game vs. UNA
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The 11th perfect game in program history and some explosive offense highlighted a pair of Wednesday wins for Alabama softball against Jacksonville State, 10-3, and UNA, 12-0.
Alabama (31-2) and Jacksonville State (23-10) traded runs back and forth until a three-run home run from Jena Young in the bottom of the fifth gave the Crimson Tide the lead for good. Alabama then added four more in the sixth to bring it to its final tally of 10-3. In the second game of the day against UNA (21-8), the pitching stole the headlines from another potent offensive performance as Jocelyn Briski (13-0), Alea Johnson and Braya Hodges combined for a five-inning perfect game, the 11th perfect game in program history and already the second this season following Kaitlyn Pallozzi's against Elon on Feb. 20.
Brooke Wells was 4-for-6 on the day scoring six runs, including three home runs to give her back the team lead with 14 this season. Alexis Pupillo added one of her own, her 12th of the year, and extended her reached base streak to 29 games. Jena Young drove in four runs on the day, three of which came on the go-ahead home run against the Gamecocks as part of a 3-for-3 day at the plate in game one. In the circle in game one, Vic Moten (12-2) struck out a season-high 12 batters in 5.0 innings of work.
From Head Coach Patrick Murphy
"It was an awesome night. I've said it from day one - the best way to respect an opponent is to play to your potential - and we did that tonight against both teams. Both teams are great in-state opponents. I thought our batters were terrific all night long and you've got to give it to the three pitchers in the second game with the perfect game. It was a great night and everybody on the team did something good. Their confidence should be sky high with this performance."
