Niewold’s Record-Setting Performance Highlights Alabama on Day Two of NCAA Championships

Sean Niewold is the first UA athlete to break the 45-second mark in the 100 butterfly
ATLANTA – Sean Niewold highlighted Alabama on the second day of the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.
Niewold recorded a school record in the 100 butterfly with a 44.98, dropping a tenth of a second off his prior record performance from the Southeastern Conference Championships. He returned minutes later as the leadoff swimmer in the 200 free relay where he bettered his personal-best in the 50 free, moving to second all-time in UA history with an 18.73.
After the second day of events, the Crimson Tide is in 31st place with eight points.
