The Crimson Tide finished the two-day, 54-hole tournament in sixth overall
CARROLLTON, Texas – Alabama's William Jennings earned a fourth-place finish to lead the No. 16 Alabama men's golf team at the Maridoe Collegiate, which concluded play on Tuesday. The Crimson Tide closed the two day, 54-hole event in sixth overall with a team score of 907 (289-302-306).
Jennings led the way for UA as the sophomore earned his fifth top five finish in eight tournaments this year, closing play tied for fourth overall at 1-over par 217 (74-70-73). Additionally, Brycen Jones (t15th) and Jack Mitchell (t19th), who was competing as an individual in the event, both finished among the top 20 golfers on the week.
Head Coach Jay Seawell's Comments
"We choose to play at Maridoe each year because it is a championship-type venue that really challenges you and shows you exactly where your game is and what you need to work on. Some other courses may mask that, but this course takes you out of your comfort zone, which is something we needed to have happen. There we 20-30mph wind gusts today and really, it's been 20mph gusts this entire week, so it's a challenging course that will certainly test you. That's why I love this tournament – the players may not like it as much but at the end of the day there is no hiding from this course, and it gives you a good idea of what you need to work on and where you need to get better.
"William did another great job playing consistent championship golf, which is something he's done week-in and week-out. He had a chance to get a third win on the year and just needed a shot to fall here or there. He continues to put himself on top of the leaderboard consistently. Now, we just have to get the other guys in line with that. We have great golfers on this team and a few of them can perform better than what they are currently doing. William's performance and consistency are things that I hope will trickle down to the rest of the guys and motivate the rest of our team. We have a path, but we need others to contribute to get to where we want to go."
