The Crimson Tide holds off a late push by the Rebels in the seventh, stranding the tying run in scoring position
OXFORD, Miss. – Alabama softball secured the series sweep over Ole Miss with a 2-1 win Sunday, holding off a late push by the Rebels as the potential tying run was stranded in scoring position in the seventh.
Alabama (23-0, 3-0 SEC) had traffic on the bases in each of the first three innings but Ole Miss (18-8, 0-3 SEC) kept dancing out of danger, keeping the game scoreless. The Crimson Tide finally broke through in the fourth with an RBI single from Audrey Vandagriff and then added another in the fifth with a sac fly RBI from Salen Hawkins to make it 2-0. Jocelyn Briski (8-0) threw 6.0 shutout innings before the Rebels tried to mount a comeback in the seventh, putting two on with two out. Taylor Roman got the home team on the board with an RBI single, moving the potential tying run into scoring position. Vic Moten entered the game to secure the final out, doing so with a swinging strikeout to earn her first career save.
From Head Coach Patrick Murphy
"I thought [Jocelyn] Briski gave us an incredible start. There were only two innings where people got on base and then Vic [Moten] came in, shut the door and did what she needed to do. The offense did enough to get us one more run than they did. We played really good defense all weekend and that was one of the big keys today."
