Brooke Wells moves into the Crimson Tide's single season top 10 in home runs
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama softball posted an 8-0 run rule shutout in five innings over South Alabama Tuesday evening at Rhoads Stadium.
Alabama's (36-3) win over South Alabama (24-18) marked its 15th shutout victory of the season and its 12th run-rule victory. Marlie Giles tied her career-high mark with three hits in the game, including two doubles. Brooke Wells also tallied three hits in the win, driving in the game-ending run on an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth.
The sophomore also hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning, her 16th of the season which ties her with Ashley Prange (2023) and Leona Lafaele (2016) for 10th place on Alabama's single-season home run records. One more home run would put her in the four-way tie for seventh place with Charlotte Morgan (2010), Amanda Locke (2010) and Ginger Jones (2000). Bailey Hemphill (2019) holds the Alabama single season record with 26.
In the circle, Kaitlyn Pallozzi (7-0) got the win with just two hits allowed over 4.0 innings pitched while Vic Moten went three up, three down in the fifth.
From Head Coach Patrick Murphy
"I was really pleased with Kaitlyn Pallozzi's start in the circle. Any time we can shut out a Division I opponent, it's a big feat and an even bigger one to do as freshmen. Two freshmen saw the mound and had great performances. We had production up and down the lineup, which was great coming off such a big series for us."
