Another Year of APR Success
I am pleased to announce that once again The University of Alabama has received high marks in the latest Academic Progress Rate (APR). In addition to an average APR score of 993, six teams scored a perfect multiyear of 1,000 with 12 additional teams achieving a perfect score in a single year. In total, all 21 UA athletics teams continue to score well above the national cutoff standard figures that cover the four-year period (2021-22 through 2024-25 school years).Â
Football highlighted the way as it set a program record with a perfect score of 1,000 to lead the nation. In all, the Crimson Tide boasts eight teams posting their best ever APR score (baseball, men's cross country, football, men's golf, men's track & field, rowing, women's tennis and volleyball) with an additional seven teams leading the SEC in their respective sport (men's cross country, football, men's and women's golf, men's swimming & diving, rowing, women's tennis and volleyball) for the four-year average. Â
Altogether, it adds up to an APR score of 993 across the University's 21 sports. In fact, this year's report marks the fifth consecutive year Alabama's overall average score rated over a 992. Great job by our student-athletes and staff!
Softball Hosts LSU for Super Regionals This Weekend
For an NCAA-record 20th time, our softball team will continue its season in the NCAA Super Regional round, as our No. 1 seeded Crimson Tide hosts No. 16 seed LSU at Rhoads. Game one of the best-of-three series is scheduled for a 6 p.m. CT first pitch Friday on ESPN2. Game two has a 2 p.m. CT start on Saturday and will be broadcast on ESPN, while, if necessary, game three will take place on Sunday with time and TV designation to be determined. Good luck, ladies!
Baseball Set to Open Play in Hoover at SEC Tournament
Our baseball team earned the No. 4 seed and will take on No. 5 seed Florida this afternoon at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium in the quarterfinal round of the 2026 SEC Baseball Tournament. The contest, which is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m. CT, will be televised on SEC Network.
The boys swept a three-game series in Tuscaloosa over the Gators earlier this season but will be looking to snap a five-game losing streak to Florida in the SEC Tournament.Â
Following SEC Tournament action, on Monday, May 25, the NCAA baseball field of 64 will be announced on ESPN2 at 11 a.m. CT. Regionals are scheduled to begin Thursday, May 28 on the campus of the top 16 seeds.Â
Men's Golfer William Jennings Wins NCAA Marana Regional
Congratulations are in order for William Jennings, who became the fourth men's golfer in program history to win an NCAA Regional championship, capturing the NCAA Marana Regional earlier in the week. William was spectacular as he carded a 15-under par 201 to claim individual honors at the Marana Regional on his way to joining Scott Strohmeyer (2013), Justin Thomas (2012) and Hunter Hamrick (2009) as Crimson Tide golfers that won an NCAA Regional individual title.Â
As the regional's top finisher with a non-advancing team, Jennings will continue his season at the NCAA Championships at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif., from May 29-June 3.Â
Track & Field Wins Three Gold Medals at SEC Championships
Track & Field had an impressive showing at the 2026 SEC Outdoor Championships, with both the men's and women's teams finishing runner up. In the end, three athletes earned gold medals. Caren Kiplagat made the first-team list after winning the women's 10,000m in a facility-record time of 32:56.93. Doris Lemngole earned first-team honors after sweeping both the women's steeplechase and the 5,000m for the second consecutive year, becoming the first student-athlete in SEC history to win the steeplechase conference title three years in a row. Finally, Samuel Ogazi claimed first-team recognition after becoming the first Nigerian athlete to break the 44-second barrier in the men's 400m (43.95).
In addition to those three, a total of 14 Alabama student-athletes earned All-SEC honors by achieving podium finishes at the conference championships.
Next up, our track and field teams will travel to Lexington, Ky., for the NCAA East Preliminaries with spots at nationals up for grabs. The event will take place at that Kentucky Outdoor Track and Field Facility Wednesday, May 27 through Saturday, May 30.
University Spotlight
Welcome to the University's new provost, Dr. Lesley Reid, who has been serving as interim provost since November 2025. Dr. Reid will continue to provide innovative academic and administrative leadership that will propel the University to develop leaders, drive research, strengthen communities and steward resources. Congratulations, Dr. Reid!
#RollTideFriday
This week's #RollTideFriday photo was sent to me from Jim Bendat, who took this photo while on vacation seeing D-Day sites. Jim told me that this is an actual restaurant in Bayeux, France. The co-owner's first name is Selma, and after she learned of Selma's important place in civil rights history, this is what she named her place. How cool is that!Â

Remember if you want to submit a photo, use the hashtag #RollTideFriday in your social posts and tweet your photos to me at @Greg_Byrne.Â
