TUSCALOOSA - The University of Alabama women's basketball team concludes its season opening home stand against Middle Tennessee State on Monday night at 7 p.m. in Coleman Coliseum.
The Tide enter the match-up fresh off an exciting come-from-behind 81-79 overtime victory over Michigan on Friday afternoon in their season opener. Sophomore Marverly Nettles scored 25 points including the game-winning basket with three seconds left in her Alabama debut.
MTSU earned an impressive 85-63 victory over Florida Atlantic on Friday night at home to improve to 1-1 on the year. The Blue Raiders dropped their season opener to South Florida. Middle Tennessee will be playing its first road game of the year on Monday night and the Blue Raiders own a 15-14 all-time record in their season road debuts.
Monday's game is a rematch from a game last season in January that saw the Blue Raiders snatched a 65-61 overtime win away from the Tide in Murfreesboro, Tenn. Alabama committed a season high 26 turnovers in that contest and were out-shot 38-12 from the free throw line in the game.
"Our loss at Middle Tennessee really stuck with me," said UA head coach Rick Moody. "It was a very competitive game that I felt like we let get away from us. I look forward to playing them again on Monday night and expect another challenging and emotional contest. Hopefully, we can build on the good things we did on Friday and have a solid game on Monday."
Admission to the Alabama-MTSU game is $5 for adults and $3 for children. Twenty-dollar season tickets are also still available at the Alabama Athletic Ticket Office in Coleman Coliseum. Fans can follow all the action on the radio at WTUSK 1420 AM and WVUA 90.7 FM as well as on the internet at www.rolltide.com. Live statistics are also available online at www.rolltide.com.
Following Monday's game against MTSU, Alabama hits the road for the first time this season traveling to Seattle, Wash., for Thanksgiving to participate in the Seattle Times Classic on Nov. 26-27. Alabama opens tournament action on Friday at 12:30 p.m. (PT) against Columbia.
