Women's Basketball Concludes Road Trip Against Tennessee Tech

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The University of Alabama women's basketball team (1-5) will continue its road swing in the Volunteer state. Alabama will face the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles (1-3) on Friday, Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. from the Eblen Center in Cookeville, Tenn. The Tide is coming off a 75-58 loss while the Golden Eagles fell at Evansville 72-56. Mick Gillispie will once again call the action on CTSN.
Alabama and Tennessee Tech have met on six occasions all-time, most recently last season... UA handled TTU in Coleman Coliseum 71-56...the Tide holds a 4-2 advantage in the series and has won each of the last four meetings between the teams...the first meeting in the series came on Dec. 17, 1988, a 66-57 Golden Eagle victory in Tuscaloosa...the Tide's first victory over TTU came on March 18, 1992 in the NCAA Tournament in Coleman Coliseum...Tech had won the first two meetings in the series...Smith faced Tech, a member of the Ohio Valley Conference, 11 times while at MTSU, chalking up a 6-5 record against the Golden Eagles.
Alabama continued its road-trip on Wednesday with a 75-58 loss to Belmont in Nashville... the Tide scored more than 40 points in the second half for the second straight game, but were unable to overcome the large first half lead built up by Belmont...freshman guard Daleisha Carn led Alabama in scoring, racking up a career-best 18 points on 7-11 shooting from the field in just 26 minutes of action...all of Carn's points came in the second half...sophomore Courtney Strauthers added a career-high 12 points for the Tide, finishing 5-10 from the floor...the Tide put together another strong night on the boards, out-rebounding Belmont 40-37 thanks in large part to the efforts of center Talisha Chandler...Chandler pulled down a career-high 18 rebounds, breaking her previous high of 14 that she set in the previous game against Washington State...Alabama's defense forced 18 turnovers, including picking up eight steals. Dedrea Magee, Varisia Raffington, and Tamara Williams had two steals each.
The Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles host Alabama with a 1-3 overall record...the Golden Eagles are coming off a 72-56 loss at Evansville on Tuesday...leading the way for Tech offensively is Meagan Lyons and Holly Rogers...the duo paces the squad with 13.0 and 12.8 points per game, respectively...on the boards, Kristina Tyler leads the team with a 8.0 boards per night...Rogers leads the Golden Eagles with 19 assists to only 14 turnovers...Tech was voted to finish fifth in the OVC by the conference coaches...last season TTU finished 12-18 overall and 11-9 in the conference for a fifth place finish.
The last two games, Tide players have erupted for career-highs...against Belmont, three UA players recorded career-bests...freshman Dalecia Carn tallied 18 points on 7-for-11 shooting...all 18 points came in the second half...for the second consecutive game sophomore Talisha Chandler controlled the boards...Chandler bettered her mark of 14 against WSU with 18 against Belmont...sophomore Courtney Strauthers tallied a career-high 12 points in the loss versus Belmont...in the win against WSU, freshman Tierney Jenkins erupted for 21 points, also a career-best.
Alabama will return home to the friendly confines of Coleman Coliseum for two-straight home games...Alabama will host Louisiana Tech on Dec. 5 at 6 p.m. and then play Saint Mary's on Dec. 9 at 1 p.m...UA will play eight of its next nine games in Tuscaloosa.
