
Softball Announces the Signing of Lauren Sewell

TUSCALOOSA, Ala.-Alabama head coach Patrick Murphy announced the signing of pitcher Lauren Sewell to a National Letter of Intent. Sewell will join the Tide from Pembroke Pines, Fla. where she currently plays for Pines Charter High School.
"We are excited to announce our first signee from the 2009 class is pitcher Lauren Sewell," Murphy said. "She has pitched in ASA gold competition for three summers and led her high school team to a No. 1 national ranking and a runner-up finish in the Florida high school state championships. She has been a winner in all levels of softball and we see her getting even better in college."
Sewell has garnered many accolades through her high school and club careers. In 2007, playing under the direction of her high school coach Tom Fadul, the pitcher was named to the All-State team, National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-South Region team and NFCA High School All-American third team.
Sewell was named to the Sun Sentinel All-County first team in 2007 and earned back-to-back second team all-county accolades in 2005 and 2006. The hurler was also named to the Miami Herald first team in three straight seasons.
In club play, Sewell competed for the Florida Gold and helped the team led by head coach Johnny Broyles advance to the Gold Nationals in 2008.
The high school senior also played for her school's volleyball team. Sewell is the daughter of Jeff and Cindy Sewell. She has two sisters Megan and Carly. The pitcher began playing softball when she was five years old.
