BEIJING, China - Four-time Alabama All-American and now two-time Olympic medalist Kelly Kretschman helped Team USA to the Gold Medal game against Japan. After defeating the Japanese team in the semifinals, Team Japan got the better of the Americans by earning the Gold Medal with a 3-1 victory.
The loss snaps a 22-game winning streak by Team USA. Kretschman, who won gold in the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games now adds a silver to her Olympic trophy case. Kretschman went 0 for 2 in the final game with a walk.
Over the nine games in Beijing, Kretschman batted .348 (8 for 23) with five runs and one home run. Kretschman ranked third on the team with six RBI.
Over the past two Olympics Team USA has outscored its opponents 109-6. In the Beijing Games the Americans amassed a 56-5 margin, including an 11-0 record-breaking victory to start of the games against Venezuela.
