TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama softball team led by 11th year head coach Patrick Murphy took to the Alabama Softball Complex Monday for the beginning of fall practice. The Crimson Tide worked on strength and conditioning in its first of an allotted 45 days of practice.
"The weather was great today," Coach Murphy said. "It was nice to get out there with all the great players we have. They are a good group of girls and are fun to coach."
Weightlifting has been a priority during the fall practice season. The Crimson Tide will also start work on implementing the team offenses and defenses. Situational play and fundamentals will also be stressed by the veteran coaching staff.
Alabama will also prepare for the Fall Brawl. The Crimson Tide will welcome a total of five teams to Tuscaloosa for three days of tournament play. The Tide will first take to the field on Sunday, Oct. 19 for games against Shelton State and South Alabama. On Saturday Oct. 25 and Sunday, Oct. 26 Alabama will play Chattanooga State, Middle Tennessee State and Wallace State.
"We play three dates in the fall and it is more of a reward for the kids," Coach Murphy said. "We are going to get to play six times and it will give everybody an opportunity to play. We will mix things up with different lineups and get a chance to play for certain situations."
Alabama will train for four day this week, ending on Thursday. Practices will begin at 2 p.m. at the UA Softball Complex. The spring season begins on Feb. 7 as the Tide will travel to the South Alabama Kickoff Classic for four games.
