Patrick Murphy Elected NFCA President

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Alabama head softball coach Patrick Murphy officially took office as president of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association at the NFCA Convention last week in San Diego after being elected the first male president in the organizations' history early this year.
Murphy served as the Second Vice President of NFCA from January 2009 up until last week's convention.
The Crimson Tide skipper is considered to be among the best in the nation, taking Alabama to six Women's College World Series appearances in the first decade of the new millennium. That tally was the third highest in the nation, only trailing PAC-10 powers Arizona and UCLA.
Southeastern Conference coaches tabbed Murphy as SEC Coach of the Year in 2010 after he led the Tide to a sweep of the regular season and tournament championships. He also became the first softball coach in SEC history to coach the SEC Player, Pitcher and Freshman of the Year all in one season with Charlotte Morgan, Kelsi Dunne and Kayla Braud all claiming the respective awards.
Murphy will look to lead the Crimson Tide to another championship season this spring when Alabama hits the diamond. The Tide will start off its 2011 campaign at the Hibbett/Easton All-Alabama Softball Classic on Friday, Feb. 11, at Liberty Park in Vestavia Hills.
