Crimson Tide continues seven-game homestand with Lady Braves
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Crimson Tide women's basketball team (5-0) returns to the court on Thursday when it hosts Alcorn State (0-6) at Coleman Coliseum. The game is slated to tip at 7 p.m. CT on SEC Network +.

OPENING TIP
- Alabama is playing in game six of its seven-game homestand Thursday when it hosts Alcorn State. This is the longest home stretch to start a season in program history.
- The Tide is led in scoring by sophomore Shaquera Wade, who is averaging 13.6 points per game. Junior Ashley Williams paces Alabama in rebounding with 7.2 boards per contest, while freshman Jordan Lewis continues to be the team's leader in assists at 3.6 per outing.
- Alabama has five student-athletes averaging double-figure points thus far. Joining sophomore Shaquera Wade (13.6 ppg) are juniors Meoshonti Knight (12.4 ppg) and Hannah Cook (11.2 ppg) and freshmen Jordan Lewis (11.2 ppg) and Ashley Knight (10.2 ppg). Junior Ashley Williams is just shy of double figures at 9.4 points per game.
- The Tide is currently outscoring its opponents by 40.6 points per game (83.2-42.6) and outrebounding the opposition by an average of 15.2 boards (49.6-34.4) per contest.
- Alabama is 5-0 for the second consecutive season under head coach Kristy Curry. The Tide won its first six games last season before picking up its first loss at UT-Martin on Dec. 2, 2015.
- Alabama leads the series all-time against Alcorn State, 7-1. Seven of the eight games in the series were played from 1986-89. The last meeting came one year ago, where the Tide picked up a 97-50 victory.
ALABAMA GOES UNDEFEATED IN NOVEMBER FOR SECOND STRAIGHT SEASON
- Alabama closed out its first month of the 2016-17 season with a perfect 5-0 record, marking the second straight season the Crimson Tide has gone undefeated in November. In 2015, Alabama posted a 6-0 mark, which was the best start since the 2002 season.
LIMITING POINTS
- Alabama has held its opponents to 15 points or fewer in 18 of 20 quarters played this season. Even more impressive is that in nine of those 18 quarters the Tide opposition has put up 10 points or fewer and in four quarters five points or fewer.
TIDE GETS BOOST FROM BENCH
- Alabama has one of the most productive benches its had in the last several years, and that has been evident on the stat sheet in both minutes and production. Through five games, the Tide's reserves have accounted for 127 points (25.4 ppg), 81 rebounds (16.2 rpg), 20 assists (4.0 apg), 15 blocks (3.0 bpg) and 13 steals (2.6 spg).
FIVE GAMES ... FIVE DIFFERENT LEADING SCORERS
- Head Coach Kristy Curry has multiple options when it comes to scoring this season. Through five games, Alabama has had five different leading scorers. In the opener, junior Meoshonti Knight led the way with 18 points. Freshman Jordan Lewis put up 21 in the Tide's second game, while junior Hannah Cook posted 13 to pace Alabama offensively in game No. 3. Junior Ashley Williams scored 19 in the win over Georgia Southern and sophomore Shaquera Wade chipped in a career-best 22 to lead the Tide over Alabama A&M.
FIRST HALF DOMINATION
- Alabama has scored 216 points in the first half of games this season, while its opponents have put up only 88. That averages out to 43.2 points at the half for the Tide compared to 17.6 for the opposition, a difference of 25.6 points.
BALANCED OFFENSE
- One of Coach Curry's team goals for the season is to have at least four in double-figure points each outing. The Crimson Tide reached that goal in four of its five games this season as five recorded 10 or more points three times and four did so on one occasion. Alabama was just shy in its game against Georgia Southern as three finished in double figures and one had eight.
ALABAMA DOMINATING POINTS IN THE PAINT
- Through five games, Alabama has outscored its opponents 234-66 in points in the paint. That averages out to 33.6 more points in the paint (46.8-13.2) for the Crimson Tide per game than the opposition.
CRIMSON TIDE RANKED IN THE TOP 10 NATIONALLY/TOP 3 IN THE SEC IN EIGHT CATEGORIES
- Through games played on Nov. 29, Alabama ranks in the top 10 nationally and the top three in the Southeastern Conference in eight different categories including scoring defense, scoring margin, field goal percentage defense, three-point field goal defense, rebounds per game, defensive rebounds per game, rebound margin and personal fouls per game.
ABOUT ALCORN STATE
- Alcorn State enters Thursday's matchup with an 0-6 record. Five of the Lady Braves' contests have been true road games, while the sixth was a neutral site game.
- As a team, Alcorn State is averaging 51.8 points per game and 37.5 rebounds per contest while allowing opponents to score 74.7 points per game and pull down 44.7 boards per outing.
- The Lady Braves are led in scoring by junior Tia Sanders, who averages 11.8 points per game. Junior Miracle Rushing leads the team in rebounds with 8.8 boards per game, while junior Alexus Freeman dishes out a team-best 3.7 assists per contest.
- Courtney G. Pruitt enters her second season at the helm of the Alcorn State women's basketball program. In her first season, Pruitt led the Lady Braves to the second round of the SWAC tournament for the first time since 2012 and coached SWAC Player of the Year Norianna Haynes, who led the league in scoring at 20.3 points per game and double-doubles with 12. Pruitt's prior coaching stops include Wiley College (head coach: 2011-15), Tyler Junior College (assistant coach: 2010-11) Ranger College (head coach: 2008-10) and Lon Morris College (assistant coach: 2005-08).
