The Crimson Tide had seven players score in double figures
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's basketball team outscored Antelope Valley in the paint, 62-14, en route to its 108-53 victory in exhibition play on Wednesday night in Coleman Coliseum.
"There were a lot of positives and anytime you can have seven in double figures, and score 108 points, it really doesn't matter who you're playing," said Alabama head coach Kristy Curry. "I liked our presence offensively, and also the ability to change our defenses and show a lot of different looks, especially with those guys being in a zone. There is a lot to learn from and a lot of positives, but I don't call it negatives. I just call it improvement areas. Tonight was good for us."
The Crimson Tide used a balanced scoring attack with seven players finishing the game in double figures, including senior Coco Knight (15), sophomore Ashley Knight (13), senior Ashley Williams (12), senior Alana da Silva (12), junior Shaquera Wade (12), senior Quanetria Bolton (11) and senior Hannah Cook (10).
Early on in the first quarter, the Tide held the 9-6 advantage before going on an offensive tear and ending the period on a 19-0 run. Alabama continued to pour on the points in the second quarter, building a 48-26 lead heading into halftime.
With the Tide lead steadily climbing into the third quarter, UA doubled up the Pioneers, 72-36 at the 1:28 mark in the period after Bolton knocked down a mid-range jumper.
The offensive attack continued in the fourth, with the Tide hitting the century mark with 2:19 left in the game, when da Silva swished two free throws to extend the lead to 100-49.
As a team, Alabama shot 51 percent (40-79) from the floor, while holding Antelope Valley to 30 percent shooting. The Tide bench was a big factor in the game, amassing 61 points in the win.
The Alabama defense capitalized on the Antelope Valley miscues, forcing 27 turnovers, which resulted in 25 points for the Tide.
Alabama opens regular season play on Friday, Nov. 10, at 7 p.m. CT against Alabama A&M.
