Alabama Women’s Basketball Drops Road Game at Kentucky, 79-54

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Alabama women's basketball team lost Thursday's game at Kentucky, 79-54, in Memorial Coliseum.
Senior Ashley Williams led the Crimson Tide (14-7, 4-4 SEC) with 15 points, while the Wildcats (10-11, 2-5 SEC) had four finish in double figures, led by junior Taylor Murray's 20-point performance. Murray also had 10 assists to record a double-double. For the game, Alabama shot 39.2 percent (20-of-51), while Kentucky knocked down 64.7 percent (33-of-51) of its attempts.
The Tide held a one-point lead at the conclusion of the opening quarter after the two teams traded baskets for the first 10:00 of play. Alabama went on to score four straight to start the second to lead by five, 21-16. From there, the Wildcats outscored the Tide, 18-8, over the last six minutes of the half to take a 34-29 advantage heading into the break.
The Wildcats remained in front throughout the third and led by as many as 10, however the Tide closed out the frame with five unanswered points to cut the Kentucky lead to five, 54-49, with one quarter to go. In the fourth though, it was all Wildcats as Kentucky outscored Alabama, 25-5.
The Tide remains on the road for its second game of the week when it heads to Auburn to take on the Tigers on Sunday. The game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. CT tip and will air on the SEC Network.
