Tide and Tigers set to tip off at 7:30 p.m. CT on SEC Network
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama will travel to take on rival No. 12/13 Auburn on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. CT on SEC Network. It will be the second game between the two teams this season. The Crimson Tide defeated the Tigers, 76-71, back on Jan. 17 in Coleman Coliseum.
In the first meeting between the rivals, freshman John Petty went 8-of-13 from beyond the arc and finished with 27 points to help snap the Tigers' 14-game winning streak, which was the longest in the nation coming into the contest. The win was even more impressive considering the Crimson Tide played without leading scorer Collin Sexton, who was ruled out with an abdominal injury prior to tip off.
Herbert Jones and Dazon Ingram both reached double figures to help push the Tide past the Tigers. Ingram went 10-of-13 from the charity stripe to score 16 points, while adding three rebounds, two assists and two steals. Jones finished with 11 points and seven rebounds to go along with four assists, four steals and a block.
Most recently, Alabama lost for just the fourth time in its last 12 games when it dropped an 81-71 decision at Kentucky last Saturday afternoon. The contest was a back-and-forth game throughout that featured eight ties and 15 lead changes. It was not decided until the final 3:35, when the Wildcats went on a 12-4 game-ending run that turned a 69-67 contest into the final 10-point difference for UK.
Four Alabama players scored in double figures against the Wildcats, led by junior forward Donta Hall who collected team highs of 16 points, six rebounds and two blocks in the loss. Hall was joined in double figures by a trio of freshmen. John Petty added 13 points on the strength of three treys, Collin Sexton collected 12 points and a team-high three assists, while Alex Reese matched his career high with 10 points – all of which came in the first half of play.
