Alabama Men’s Tennis Drops Tough Match to No. 24 Tennessee, 5-2

The Crimson Tide won the doubles point before the Vols won five of six singles matches
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama men's tennis team dropped a tough match to No. 24 Tennessee, 5-2 on Sunday afternoon at the Alabama Tennis Stadium.
The Crimson Tide (16-9, 2-8 SEC) started off the day by clinching the doubles point before the Vols (18-6, 7-3 SEC) answered by winning five of six singles matches.
For the third-straight match, Alabama began the day by snagging the doubles point. On Court 2, the sophomore duo of Thibault Cancel and Alexey Nesterov defeated Stodder/Walton, 6-4, while on Court 3 freshman Patrick Kaukovalta and sophomore Zhe Zhou clinched the point for the Tide with their 6-3 win over Muamba/Rogers.
In singles play, the Vols answered back with No. 93 Adam Walton defeating sophomore Edson Ortiz, 6-1, 6-1, to tie the score at 1-1. Later on, UT took the lead on Court 1 with No. 20 Timo Stodder taking down No. 50 junior Mazen Osama, 7-5, 6-2. Moments later, Preston Touliatos pushed past Nesterov, 6-4, 6-3 to give the Vos the 3-1 advantage.
Kaukovalta kept the Tide in the match with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Scott Jones, however, shortly after, Luca Wiedenmann clinched the match for the Vols with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Zhou.
After the match was clinched, Luis Valero downed Cancel, 6-7 (6), 6-2, 6-4, to end the day.
Next up, the Crimson Tide will travel to Gainesville, Fla., to take on the No. 9 Florida Gators on Friday, April 13 at 4 p.m. CT.
