TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama Softball Associate Head Coach Alyson Habetz will be inducted into the West Alabama Softball Hall of Fame on Friday, June 21 at Robertson's Barn in Ralph, Ala.
Her induction comes two years after Crimson Tide head coach Patrick Murphy was enshrined in the Hall, which is located at the Jerry Belk Center in Tuscaloosa. Habetz is joined in this year's class by Tommy Colvin, Wendy Harris, Lisa Patrick, Dennis Shoemaker, George Sylvester and Earnest Washington.
"West Alabama has a rich tradition of great athletes, coaches and umpires dating back 40 years," Habetz said. "Being chosen to join such a distinguished group is certainly an honor I am so grateful and humbled to receive."
The West Alabama Softball Hall of Fame was established to honor the men and women who have played a major role in the growth and development of softball through their contributions in a number of capacities including players, managers, coaches, umpires and sponsors.
Habetz arrived at the Capstone as an assistant coach in 1999, Murphy's first year at the helm of the program. Her 21-year career with the Crimson Tide includes six SEC regular-season championships, four SEC Tournament titles, 12 Women's College World Series appearances and a 2012 national championship. She has mentored numerous All-American outfielders, including four-time honorees Kelly Kretschman (1998-2001), Brittany Rogers (2006-09) and Haylie McCleney (2013-16).
