The Crimson Tide battled for six runs on 10 hits, but it was not enough to pick up the win on Saturday
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama fell to third-ranked Ole Miss, 11-6, in the series finale at Sewell-Thomas Stadium on Saturday. The loss moved the 23rd-ranked Crimson Tide to 15-9 on the season and 1-5 in Southeastern Conference play.
Alabama got out front first with one run in the second but would not hold a lead the rest of the afternoon. Ole Miss posted four runs in the fifth and added seven across the final four frames to secure the win. The Crimson Tide battled for two in the fifth, a pair in the eighth and one in the ninth but was unable to match the Rebels.
The Crimson Tide was led at the plate by Peyton Wilson with the sophomore homering as part of his 4-for-5 day. Wilson added an RBI, one stolen base and a team-high two runs scored from his leadoff spot. T.J. Reeves also homered in the game, finishing 1-for-4 with a run and a team-leading two RBI.
Ole Miss starter Derek Diamond (3-2) picked up the win while Alabama starter Connor Shamblin (2-1) suffered his first loss of the season. Shamblin tossed 5.0 frames, allowing four runs on four hits and two walks with four strikeouts.
From Head Coach Brad Bohannon
"Going into this weekend, we knew it was going to be tough without Connor Prielipp, Antoine Jean and Chase Lee. Without those three guys, going into three games in two days with a top-five team, we knew it was going to be a challenge for us on the back-end and, unfortunately, that's what it was. I thought all three kids this weekend out of the gate at starter did a great job. Tyler Ras, Dylan Smith and Connor Shamblin all really competed well and got us to the middle of the game with a chance to win the game."
How It Happened
- B2 | Alabama struck first with one run in the second. Andrew Pinckney led off the inning with a double before moving to second on an infield groundout. Pinckney would come around to score in the next at-bat thanks to a sacrifice fly from Jackson Tate. (1-0, Alabama)
- T5 | The Rebels loaded the bases and then used a two-out RBI-double to bring in three. One batter later, a wild pitch allowed the man from second to cross. (4-1, Ole Miss)
- B5 | Tate led things off with a single. Peyton Wilson followed with a single of his own to put runners on the corners for Owen Diodati. The Tide DH sent a sacrifice fly to left to score Tate. A groundout in the next at-bat moved Wilson to second before a single from Sam Praytor brought Wilson home. (4-3, Ole Miss)
- T6 | Ole Miss added three runs on four hits and a walk to make it a four-run ballgame. (7-3, Ole Miss)
- T7 | A sac fly for the Rebels brought across one in the seventh. (8-3, Ole Miss)
- T8 | Tim Elko delivered a two-run home run to add to the OM lead. (10-3, Ole Miss)
- B8 | Davis Heller pinch-hit for UA and recorded a one-out single. T.J. Reeves brought him home in the next at-bat. Reeves battled to a 3-2 count and eventually came out on top, homering off the scoreboard in left for a two-run shot. (10-5, Ole Miss)
- T9 | The Rebels singled with a runner in scoring position to add one more. (11-5, Ole Miss)
- B9 | Wilson sent a solo shot over the wall in right for Alabama's final run. (11-6, Ole Miss)
