No. 19 Alabama Advances to ITA Kickoff Weekend Finals with 4-0 Win over VCU

The Crimson Tide won the doubles point and three straight singles matches to secure its spot in the regional championships
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 19 Alabama men's tennis team (3-0) downed VCU (0-2) in a 4-0 victory Saturday to advance to ITA Kickoff Weekend championship match.
The Tide earned a spot in the ITA Kickoff Weekend finals for the second consecutive year and fourth time since 2009. Alabama will face No. 5 Virginia on Sunday for a chance to advance to the ITA National Indoor Championships (Feb. 14-17) in Waco, Texas.

- Alabama took a strong start as Damien Nezar and Andrii Zimnokh cruised to a 6-1 victory on doubles court two against Nicolo Consonni and Konstantyn Mantach
- Moments later, Roan Jones and Matias Ponce De Leon would secure the doubles point with a 6-4 victory over Leon Zaorski and Gevorg Mnatsakanyan on court three
- With momentum from doubles, Ponce De Leon took a quick 6-1, 6-2 win on court three over Erwann Bouchet to move the Tide out to a 2-0 lead
- Filip Planinsek would down German Samofalov 6-4, 6-1 at the top of the lineup before Andrii Zimnokh clinched the match off a 6-3, 6-1 victory against Leo Zaorski on court four
