Laney Hennessee recorded a career-high 21 kills in the match
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama volleyball team (9-6, 1-5 SEC) took Georgia (12-3, 4-1 SEC) to five sets on Sunday at Foster Auditorium, but ultimately fell, 2-3. The Crimson Tide had three players total 15+ kills for the first time since Sept. 2, 2022, vs. Oregon State.
Alabama saw several top performances in Sunday's match, led by Laney Hennessee who notched 21 kills. Right behind her was Mya Allen with 19 kills and Kaleigh Palmer with 18. On the defensive end, Dionii Fraga and Lindsey Brown made unbelievable receptions throughout the match, combining for 27 digs.
Junior setter Hannah Parant finished with a career-high 55 assists (11.0 assists/set). She added 10 digs to record her fourth double-double (assists-digs) of the season.
The difference maker in the match was Georgia's ability to block the Crimson Tide attackers. The Bulldogs totaled 20 total blocks compared to Alabama's nine.
From Head Coach Rashinda Reed
"Bummed about the result, but I'm really proud of how we fought. I thought it was a really good match, and we did a lot of things that we were working on in practice. This was a much better response than our previous losses, but I think that the ladies just battled, and that's what we're looking for. We want them to fight to the very end, and they did that."

How It Happened
The Crimson Tide found itself down 18-20 late in set one but rallied for a 4-0 scoring run to take a 22-18 lead. The run was made up of a kill by Laney Hennessee, a Georgia attack error and back-to-back aces by Lily Gervase. A kill by the Bulldogs put an end to the streak, but Alabama then scored three unanswered points to take the first set, 25-21.
Georgia tied things up at 1-1 in set two after pulling away following the media timeout. The Crimson Tide never gave up, however, showing a lot of fight late in the set. While down 20-24, Alabama went on a quick 3-0 run to make it a one-point deficit, 23-24. A kill by Georgia's leading attacker ended the set as the Bulldogs won, 25-23.
The Crimson Tide responded well in set three, taking an early 7-2 lead to force a Georgia timeout. The Bulldogs managed to tie it at 10-all later on, keeping them in it. Alabama gained some separation following multiple Georgia errors and kills by Hennessee and Kaleigh Plamer. The Crimson Tide went on to win set three, 25-22, after Mya Allen recorded the team's last four kills.
In sets four and five, long scoring runs by the Bulldogs led to their eventual victory. Despite the result, Alabama never backed down and fought back hard, especially in the fourth set. A three-point Georgia advantage in set five just kept growing as the Bulldogs won, 15-7.
