Thank You Coach Mic Potter!
I would like to start by thanking Mic Potter, who announced his retirement on April 13 after a 40-plus year career has a Division I head coach. Coach Potter, who has led our women's golf program the last 21 years, has had an incredible career, guiding our team to the 2012 National Championship title and following that up with a runner-up finish in 2018. His teams have won 39 tournament titles, including three SEC championships and four NCAA Regional wins. He's produced an individual national champion, 36 WGCA All-Americans and 64 All-SEC selections, including three Players of the Year and five Freshman of the Year honorees.
Coach Potter was twice named the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) National Coach of the Year, earning the accolade in 2012 and 2018, and is a six-time SEC Coach of the Year (2007, 2010-13, 2018) honoree. He's also a hall of famer, having been inducted into the National Golf Coaches' Association Hall of Fame and the Furman Athletics Hall of Fame, where he coached from 1983-2005.
We are so appreciative of all that Coach Potter and his wife Kim have done and meant to Alabama and the game of golf overall and wish them and their family the best in this next chapter.

Jessica Timmons Selected in 2026 WNBA Draft
Congratulations to our very own Jessica Timmons on her selection in the 2026 Women's National Basketball Association Draft on April 13. It's the first time in back-to-back years one of our players has heard her name called.
Jessica was selected by the Indiana Fever with the 40th pick (third round) and in doing so, she became the program's 12th overall draft selection. The Crimson Tide has now had six players in the last six years drafted as Timmons joins Sarah Ashlee Barker (Los Angeles Sparks), Aaliyah Nye (Las Vegas Aces) and Zaay Green (Washington Mystics), who were all selected during last year's draft, along with Brittany Davis (Las Vegas Aces - 2023) and Jasmine Walker (Los Angeles Sparks - 2021).Â
Murph Wins 500th SEC Game!
Congratulations are also in order for our Hall of Fame Head Coach Patrick Murphy who became the first softball coach in Southeastern Conference history to earn 500 SEC wins, reaching the milestone following a 4-0 shutout victory over Auburn on April 11. We couldn't be happier for the head coach who preaches "Mudita" and are pleased to celebrate this milestone with him. Murph now owns an all-time SEC record of 501-205 (.709) in 28 years as the Crimson Tide's head coach, serving in that role since the 1999 season. No other SEC head softball coach has even reached 400 conference wins.
Our softball program has three conference series remaining in regular season, two of which will be played at home. This weekend, we host Kentucky at Rhoads Stadium on April 17-19. Following a road series at Tennessee April 25-27, the Tide returns to Tuscaloosa for the final regular season series when we welcome South Carolina on April 30-May 1. We hope you come out and show your support for not only Coach Murphy, but this entire team that has been so much fun to watch this season.
Baseball Hits the Road for Six of Next Seven
Following its 12-6 victory at UAB on Tuesday, our baseball team is preparing to play back-to-back SEC road series and six of their next seven on the road. The one home contest will be Tuesday, April 21, when Alabama hosts the Blazers for a 6 p.m. CT first pitch. Sandwiched around that contest is a pair of road series beginning this weekend in Austin, Texas vs. No. 2 Texas. Next weekend, the team heads to Knoxville, Tenn., for a three-game set against the Volunteers on April 23-25.
As a reminder, there are only two more home series left, which will be the first weekend of May when we host Vanderbilt (April 30-May 2) before closing out the regular season with a home series against No. 25 Ole Miss (May 14-16).
Women's Tennis Advances in SEC Tournament, Second Round Tonight
Congratulations to Head Coach Jonatan Berhane and our women's tennis team who advanced to the second round of the 2026 SEC Tournament thanks to a 4-3 exciting win over Mississippi State on April 15. We showed a lot of resiliency after dropping the doubles point to begin the match and bouncing back to secure four victories in singles for the win. The team is back in action tonight, taking on Texas at 6 p.m. CT in Norman, Okla.
Men's and Women's Golf set for Championship Season
Our men's and women's golf teams finished their regular season schedules and now turn their focus towards championship season as the Southeastern Conference Championships and NCAA Regionals and Nationals await both teams. Women's golf opens championship play this weekend in Belleair, Fla., for the 2026 SEC Championships, hosted at the Pelican Golf Club April 17-21.
Men's golf recently wrapped up its regular season, finishing fourth at the Mossy Oak Collegiate in West Point, Miss., earlier this week. The team next heads on to Sea Island, Ga. for the 2026 SEC Men's Golf Championships, hosted at the Sea Island Golf Club April 22-26.
Rowing to Compete in Regattas the Next Two Weekends
Rowing closes the regular season schedule with regattas in back-to-back weekends beginning this Friday. Head coach Kumari Lewis will take her team to first compete at the Orlando Invite, hosted by UCF, on April 17-18. The following weekend is the Lake Wheeler Invite hosted by Duke in Raleigh, N.C., on April 24-25. It will be the team's first action since a solid performance at the Rocky Top Invite where they picked up three first-place finishes.
Track and Field Continues Outdoor Season
Our men's and women's track and field teams continue their outdoor season with a triple meet week this weekend - Tom Jones Memorial in Gainesville, Fla., Wake Forest Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C. and the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif. Following that competition, the teams will compete on the Plains at the one-day Auburn Invite meet on April 25. Field events will begin that day at 10:30 a.m. CT at Hutsell-Rosen Track Stadium, with track events beginning later that same afternoon.
University Spotlight
I came across an interesting story about how The University of Alabama is playing an important part in NASA's ongoing and future space missions, including Artemis I and Artemis II. Some of the software used on the space missions were developed right here on campus. Developed at one of UA's laboratories, the software helps researchers calculate and design trajectories to destinations in space. It's fascinating and certainly worth the read!
#RollTideFriday
The #RollTideFriday photo this week was sent to me from Matt and Sharon Anderson, who took this snapshot from the Grand Prismatic in Yellowstone National Park. What a beautiful location and, boy, does that that crimson color pop in that setting.

I always love seeing our fans send photos from unique locations all over the country and throughout the entire world, so keep sending those pictures.Â
Remember if you want to submit a photo, use the hashtag #RollTideFriday in your social posts and tweet your photos to me at @Greg_Byrne.
