The senior transfer participated in a wide variety of service projects in the Tuscaloosa community
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama senior Paris Thompson was named to the 2024 SEC Volleyball Community Service Team, it was announced Wednesday by the Southeastern Conference.
Thompson participated in a number of community outreach opportunities with her Alabama volleyball teammates. They hosted a table at Live at the Plaza, an outdoor event downtown each summer that allows them to interact with the community and play volleyball-related games with young kids. They also did something similar with a Halloween flair at the Boo at the Park event in nearby Sokol Park, dressing up and playing games with kids. The Alabama Athletics department also hosts its annual Halloween Extravaganza each October, where every team sets up a sport-related game for costumed kids to come and play. Thompson was part of a small group that visited the Capstone Village, a local retirement home, where she played card games and cornhole against the residents. She and her teammates played volleyball with the children from Candor Power Hour, a fitness program for children with special needs. In the lead up to our annual Power of Pink match, Thompson and some teammates visited the Manderson Cancer Center and got to tour the facility and interact with patients who were there undergoing chemotherapy treatment.
On the court, she played in 26 matches this year with the Crimson Tide, including 12 starts. She was second on the team with 272 kills, including a career-best 23 in the Nov. 15 five-set win over Mississippi State. A native of Fort Meyers, Fla., Thompson joined Alabama as a senior transfer in 2024 after three years at Notre Dame.
The SEC sponsors Community Service Teams for all 22 league sponsored sports. The Community Service Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to their community in superior service efforts. This year's Volleyball Community Service team is the 22nd annual iteration of the list.
