The Crimson Tide defeats the Rebels, 2-0, for its eighth shutout of the season
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Fifth-ranked Alabama soccer celebrated its senior night Friday at the Alabama Soccer Stadium with a 2-0 shutout win over Ole Miss to remain undefeated in SEC play.
A pair of first half goals proved enough for Alabama (12-1-0, 5-0-0 SEC) to get the shutout win over Ole Miss (7-6-0, 0-5-0 SEC), its eighth shutout of the season and its fourth in SEC play. Goalkeeper Madi Munguia now sits alone in second place on the Crimson Tide's single-season shutout list, just two away from tying McKinley Crone's (2022) season record of 10.
Alabama's first goal came within the first 10 minutes of the game, as Melina Rebimbas dished a ball out to the right edge of the box, with Maison Smith crossing it all the way across to the left post as Ashley Roni found the ball to head it in for her seventh goal of the season and her first in SEC play. Just over 10 minutes later, Kennedy Garcia sent one in under the diving keeper to make it 2-0 for the senior's fourth goal of the year. That proved enough as Munguia and the backline held the Rebels to just three second-half shots as the Crimson Tide were in control the rest of the way.
Prior to the start of the game, the Tide recognized its senior class of Cali Brewer, Avery Brown, Kennedy Garcia, Olivia Herrera, Leah Klurman, Coralie Lallier, Kierson McDonald, Melina Rebimbas and Larkin Thomason.
From Head Coach Wes Hart
"What another great performance from us. I've been saying it all year and it probably sounds like a little bit of a broken record but we're finding ways to continue to win games. Something that has really stuck out to me in the last couple of weeks is the depth of our team and how we are able to just wear teams down. The shots were fairly even in the first half and in the second half we came out and we smashed them. The players that we are bringing off the bench could easily be starting. All of them are making an impact off the bench. They are legitimate starters for our team or any team. I think that is massive for us."
