The Crimson Tide begins postseason play next week at the SEC Tournament
STARKVILLE, Miss. - Sixth-ranked Alabama soccer fell in its regular season finale to Mississippi State, 1-0, Sunday afternoon in Starkville.
Alabama (14-4-0, 7-3-0 SEC) trailed after a Mississippi State (9-2-6, 3-1-6 SEC) header off a corner kick in the 25th minute, going into the locker room down on the scoreboard for just the second time this season. The Crimson Tide out-shot the Bulldogs 8-2 in the second half, including a 3-0 advantage in shots on goal, but could not convert as the home team ultimately held on for the shutout victory.
From Head Coach Wes Hart
"It was a disappointing way to end the regular season, but I'm still very proud of what we've done so far. We finished 14-4 overall and 7-3 in league play and had the second-best season in program history. We finished tied for second in the SEC after being picked ninth in the preseason poll. Credit to Mississippi State. They played hard today. They got the early goal on us and then sat back and defended. We had a couple great looks, but we just weren't good enough to convert them today. We will take a few days off to rest and recover to get ready to make a run at the SEC Tournament title."
Highlights
- Alabama concludes conference play with seven SEC wins, its most since going 10-0 in 2022
- The shutout loss was just the second this year for the Crimson Tide and it was also just the second time this season Alabama trailed at halftime
