TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama's Reyna Reyes was named to the United Soccer Coaches Southeast Region First Team, the organization announced Monday. The honor marks Reyes' first appearance as a regional first-team selection and her third overall appearance after earning third-team honors following her freshman and sophomore seasons.
Reyes is just the third Alabama soccer player to earn a place on the United Soccer Coaches All-Region First Team, joining goalkeeper Justine Bernier (2010) and forward Ashley Kirkland (1997), and the first in program history to be named an all-region selection three times.
Reyes was a force on the backline for the Crimson Tide, helping the program post seven shutouts which included holding No. 19 Auburn and No. 24 LSU scoreless through 90 minutes. The Garland, Texas, native defended the 11th-ranked scoring offense in the country to capture the program's first-ever NCAA tournament win with a 1-0 victory over Clemson. At home, Alabama outscored its opponents 23-8 as it set a program record for most home wins in a single season at 10.
Despite playing on the backline, Reyes notched an assist against Missouri and scored the game-winning goal against Jacksonville State and then-No. 24 LSU. She also scored in the team's 2-1 win over Kentucky to finish the year with seven points. Reyes concluded the year tied for third on the team in goals and tied for second in game-winning goals.
